Funeral services for Johanna Van Heukelom, 90 were held on Monday, December 8 at First Reformed Church in Holland, Mich.,with Revs. Dan Gillett and Dr. M. Eugene Osterhaven officiating.

Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery in Holland, Mich.

Johanna was born in Pella, on November 18, 1913. She was one of eight De Ronde children. At the young age of 14, Johanna's mother passed away and she became the surrogate mother to her 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Once more sorrow would fill the house when her father passed away 5 years later. Although it was an arduous childhood for all the children, Johanna still found time occasionally to enjoy playing baseball and iceskating.

Johanna's life took a new direction when she was introduced to Raymond Van Heukelom by his cousin Pearl. They met by chance at an ice cream social. In 1940 Rev. William Goulouze, who was a relative of Ray, married them at the Western Theological Seminary.

She served with her husband Dr. Raymond in Corinth, Mi. Roseland, III and also in Holland Michigan at First Reformed Church where she was a member during her retirement years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene, in 1988.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Raymond Van Heukelom, her sons, Rick and Connie Van Heukelom of Grand Haven, and Dr. John and Gretchen Van Heukelom of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Rajean Schrotenboer of Holland; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters, Dora and Peter Rus of Pella, and Jennie and Harold Ver Meer of Pella, brother, Bob and Dot De Ronde of Pella; Sister-in-law, Gladys De Ronde of Newton,, in-laws, Betty Godyk of Pella; Ruth Jean Van Heukelom of Holland, Mich. and Gerrit Sneller of Pella; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial gifts may be given to First Reformed Church Youth Missions.
