Funeral services for Catherine B. Maurer, formerly of Des Moines and Pella, who passed away Nov. 29, were held Dec. 3 at the Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Catherine Maurer, the former Catherine Brunia, was the wife to the late Harry E. Melton and the wife of the late James L. Maurer.

Catherine was the daughter of the late William Frans Brunia and Ena Heemstra Brunia of Des Moines. She was the sister of Alice Proudfit (wife of the late Melvin Proudfit); Frank Brunia and his wife Lois; Marion Brunia and his wife Erma and the late Nate Brunia (husband of Denise Brunia) and William Brunia (husband of Kathleen Brunia)

Cathie enjoyed decoupage, hand coloring, quilling, gardening, stamp collecting, golf, genealogy and had her pilots license.

She belonged to the Elizabeth Barrett Browning Society, the Pella Historical Society and helped in the founding of the Des Moines branch of the Lupus Foundation. She loved her Frisian heritage and learning the Frisian language.

She is survived by five children; Pam Binkley of Belle Plain, Kan; Becky Selders and husband Mark of Olathe, Kan.; Janet Brown and husband James of Albuquerque, N.M.; Patricia Meyers and husband Tim of Clinton, Mo.; and Jim Maurer of Jupiter, Flor.;, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
