On June 15, 1940 she and Harold Franklin Groeneweg, a hired farm hand, were united in marriage at Kirksville, Miss., accompanied by her parents. Magdalene and Harold lived and farmed south of Pella for 44 years. They retired in 1998 and moved into an apartment at 905 West First Street in Pella.

She was then cared by her great-niece, Brenda (Stursma) Van Vark and her family, for the next three years. They provided for her physical needs until the past month when she became hospitalized at the Pella Regional Health Center. Magdalene passed away there on Monday morning, May 5. Magdalene is survived by her youngest brother, John Schippers of Rogers, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Jennie (Francis) Schippers of Pella; and several dear nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, who were considered their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Andrew and Alida Schippers; her oldest sister, Henrietta Goemaat and her two older brothers: Leonard and Francis Schippers.
