A memorial service for John H. Dickson, 54, of Pella was held January 19 at the Kruidenier Center on the Campus of Central College. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

John Howard Dickson was born on April 15, 1948 in Laramie, Wyoming. He was one of two children that were born to Howard Alvord and Marjorie Ann (Clay) Dickson. John received his education and graduated from Portland State University with a Master's of Fine Arts.

On May 28, 1999 he was united in marriage with Starla J. De Long at Sioux City. John worked at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City as an Associate Professor and Technical Director of the Fine Arts Department for 20 years. Following his tenure there, John and Starla moved to Pella in 2000 where John held a position as an Associate Professor and Technical Director of the Fine Arts Department for Central College.

In November of 2002, John was diagnosed with cancer and was faithfully attended to by his wife Starla. John passed away at his home on Wednesday morning,
January 15.

He was a member of Siouxland Shakespeare and International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.) John was interested in all theatrical productions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Starla; his sister, Susan Lawson; and uncle Edward Clay. John will also be missed by his cat, Tinsel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella.
