Obituary for Norman J. Karr, 39 Knoxville Journal Express Knoxville Iowa

Funeral services for Norman J. Karr, who died at the Pella Community Hospital Wednesday, June 7, 1961, were held from Bybee & Davis Funeral home. Friday, June 9, with elder George Stone, Elder Max Thames and Elder E.B. Hallstead officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Pallbearers were W.A. Sowers, Charles Ross, O.B. Doll, Albert Engstrom, Merl Kirkwood, and Raph Grogan. Mrs. Otho Kirk served as organist for Mrs. A. G. Hockridge, soloist and Mr. and Mrs. J. Just., Mrs Joan Arnott and Mrs Irene smith assisted with the flowers.

Norman James , son of Mr. and Mrs Burt Karr was born in Marion County, Feb. 11, 1922. He graduated from Newton High School and worked for the Western Union. In 1942 he entered the army and spent four years in the Signal Corp serving in the Washington D.C. area. During part of this period he worked at the White House, making a trip with President Roosevelt to the Quebec conference. Following his discharge he entered government employ and served in the finance office at the Knoxville VA hospital. In 1958 he connected with Iowa State University where he was supervisor of the payroll department.

April 24, 1943 he was united in marriage to Cleo Jacobs. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Ronald and Michael and a daughter, Deborah Jean; his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Merle (Cecil) Price of Otley and Mrs. Charles (Roberta) Hodgson, Knoxville; and two brothers, Harold and Lloyd both of Knoxville.
