Funeral services for Kenneth Gene Warner, 72, of Pella, who died on Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, were held on Saturday, September 9, at the Chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. Donald W. Plantinga officiated at the services. Joyce Vos was organist. Spencer Ver Meer was soloist.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Military honors were provided by the Van Veen-Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella. Casketbearers were Derek Le May, Andrew Warner, Tyler Warner, Bruce Rietveld, Fred Rietveld, Jr. and Lowell Ver Steeg.

Ken was born on September 26, 1927 in Pella, the son of Lloyd and Jeanette Martha (Doerlyns) Warner. He attended Pella Community Grade Schools and later received his GED diploma from Central College.

Ken served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1945 to 1947. Following his discharge, he was employed at Kuyper's Music in Pella.

He was married to Cora Mae Kamerick on March 9, 1948 in Pella. Ken and Mae lived most of their married lives in Pella. For a few years they lived in Northwest Iowa where Ken was employed with Green Colonial. Following their return to Pella, Ken began working at Van Gorp Manufacturing Company as a bookkeeper and purchasing agent until the company was reorganized with Emerson Inc. Ken then began doing the same kind of work at Precision Pulley. His last employment was with Central Paving.

Ken found a great deal of enjoyment in cooking, camping and operating his ham radio.

He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella and had been a member of the American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella. For several years, Ken was active with the Pella Police Auxiliary which he was partly responsible for organizing.

Ken was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cindy Lea; his wife, Mae; and his parents.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kendra K. Johannes of Carlisle and Marla B. and Raymond Le May of Oskaloosa; a son, Bradley A. of Platte City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Virgil of Zeeland, Mich.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of Iowa.

Arrangements were made by Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
