VALSTER, VAN ALST, MESSAMAKER

Funeral services for Kate Valster, 79, of rural Harvey, who died on Wednesday, November 22, 2000, at the Pella Regional Health Center, were held on Saturday, November 25, 2000, at the Chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. G. LaVerne Hill officiated at the services. Music was provided by Rick Van Gorp, soloist, and Linda Litwiller, organist.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Lance Schakel, Danny Schakel, Rick Van Gorp, Marvin Ver Heul, John Adkins, Rick Bandstra, and Tracy Charland.

Kate was born on May 19, 1921, in Marion County near Harvey, the daughter of Walter (Jack) and Carrie (Messamaker) Van Alst. Kate lived all of her lifetime in Marion County.

She married Abe Valster on September 6, 1980. They lived near Harvey.

Prior to becoming a homemaker, she was employed at Boomsma's Produce. She enjoyed crocheting and going fishing.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Edward Walter Van Alst.

She is survived by her husband, Abe Valster of Harvey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Chris Schakel of Harvey and Edward Lee and Mary Mae Schakel of Pella; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Van-Dyk-Duven Funeral Home.
