Funeral services for Jeanette (Summy) Stephenson, 90, of West Moines, who died Friday, May 26, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Tuesday, May 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville. Rev. Roger Schlaefer officiated at the services. Midge Brooks was organist and Matt Dick was vocalist.

Interment was at Pleasantville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Matt Dick, Blaine Hill, Bill Kullunder, Tom Kading, Marvin Dick and Skip Creveling. Honorary casket bearers were Colin Creveling and Christopher Creveling.

Jeanette was born on January 23, 1910 in Pleasantville, the daughter of Warren and Lula Summy. She met her husband Elvis (Steve) while working at the Marion County Newspaper in 1940 and wed that year on December 25.

Upon Steve's death in 1957, she took over as publisher and editor of the paper. She retired from the paper in 1976 and went on to sell Electrolux vacuum cleaners until moving to Waukee in 1985 to be near her children.

Jeanette was a hard worker and dearly loved her family and friends. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star, of which she was Past Worthy Matron.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one daughter, Nancy Jo; two sisters, Geraldine and Marjorie; and two brothers, Wayne and Gene.

She is survived by one daughter, Jane Stephenson of West Des Moines; one granddaughter, Jill Thurman of West Des Moines; one grandson, Clint Creveling of Lincoln, Neb.; and two great-grandchildren, Colin and Christopher Creveling.

Arrangements were made by the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville.
