Funeral Mass for Mabel Colbert, 98, of Ottumwa, who died on Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at her home, was held on Friday, June 23 at St. Mary of the Visitation Church with Rev. Robert Striegel officiating.

Pallbearers were Mike and Don Schwartz, Kevin and Calvin Hannam, Bob Colbert and John Burkart. Honorary pallbearers were Nick and Tim Schwartz.

Mabel was born on March 5, 1902, in Dallas Township, before Melcher was incorporated, to Ed and Katherine Gass Wadle. She married Tom Colbert; he died in November of 1959.

She moved to Ottumwa from Melcher in 1961 and worked at O'Hara Hardware and helped at Parkview Plaza. She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church.

Mabel was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Schwartz; five sons, Thomas, Jerome, Michael and infant twin sons; two grandsons; four sisters, Florence Yeggy, Marie Darnell, Hildreth Sullivan and Eva Prizler; and two brothers, J. Alfred and Mertelle Wadle.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Hannam of Plano, Texas, and Maureen Burkart of Plesanton, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Shebestas of Rock Island, Ill., Geraldine Leavengood of Melcher and Estaline Brown of Hollywood, Calif.
