Funeral services for Robert "Bob" Dwaine Chambers, 70, of Columbia, who died on Sunday, September 3, 2000 at his home, were held on Wednesday, September 6 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Rev. Clyde Sparks officiated at the services. Evelyn Beebout was organist. Katie Davis and Lois Reichert were vocalists.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Military honors were accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3519 and American Legion Post #168. Casketbearers were Gary Clark, Rick Hamilton, Wayne Langstraat, Orval Hall, Bob Jessip and Wes Loomis. Honorary casketbearers were Frank Carruthers, Don DeMoss, Junior Heck, Keith Covey, Melvin Flanders and Paul Smith.

Bob was born on September 17, 1929 in Pershing. He was one of eleven children born to Zella Myrtle Light and Edward Chambers.

Bob attended various country schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his return, Bob married Maxyne Jeanette Ackerson on February 25, 1953 in Knoxville.

Bob drove a truck for various coalmines and also a feed truck for different dealers in the area. His real love was farming. He milked cows for many years along with the help of his children. Bob also raised stock cows. He had just gotten a new colt, which he enjoyed.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a WWF wrestling fan and enjoyed watching with the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Maxyne of Columbia; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Karen and Jim Healey of Dallas, Texas, Linda and Randy Pebworth of Prairieville, La., Nancy and Doug Harsin of Columbia, and Diane Beal of Albia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Vickie Chambers and Tim and Deb Chambers of Columbia; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lila Donohue and Jean Vande Kamp of Knoxville; four brothers, Harold of Knoxville, Junior of Oskaloosa, Randle of Knoxville and Raymond of Knoxville as well as other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or his family.

Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
