Funeral services for Frank Zickel, Jr., 81, of Knoxville, who died on Monday, September 24, 2001, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Thursday, September 27, at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. Dr. Craig Bex officiated at the services. Kevin Stittsworth was pianist.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery. Casketbearers were Art Black, Duane Lauber, Jeff Johnson, Tom Ligouri, Alby Jenkins and Alan Vander Linden.

Frank was born on July 15, 1920, in Des Moines, the son of Frank and Emma (De Bruyn) Zickel. He was raised in Jasper County until moving to Marion County at the age of 15 to live with his aunt and uncle, Alby and Jennie Dennis. As a young man, Frank worked in the Dennis Hatchery.

He married Mildred Harrington on November 30, 1941, in Knoxville. Frank worked at Lowe Bros. Paint and in later years he and his son, Terry, operated Zickel and Son House Doctors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cleora Jenkins; his aunt and uncle, Alby and Jennie Dennis; and his grandson, Douglas Michael Zickel.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Carolyn Zickel of Knoxville; a daughter, Sherry VanderLinden of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Arrangement were made by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
