Funeral services for Cornelius Van Den Baard, 89, of Pella, who died on Saturday, January 6, 2001, at his winter home in Harlingen, Texas, were held on Thursday, January 11, at First Baptist Church in Pella. Pastor John McNabb officiated at the services.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Pella.

Cornelius was born on October 7, 1911, in Otley, to John and Margaret (Vriezelaar) Van Den Baard.

He married Mary Ruth Jansen on October 25, 1932. He lived most of his life south of Pella. He owned and operated a trucking company for 31 years. He had also worked for Pella Corporation for ten years and worked security at the Iowa State Fair.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pella. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, playing pool and dominoes.

Cornelius was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and John Van Den Baard; and a sister, Lucille Buwalda.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Van Den Baard of Pella; a sister, Marge Swank of Otley; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Cindy Van Den Baard of Cedar Rapids; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Walt Ward of Pella, Joan Felton and Evan Thomas of Harlingen, Diana and Larry Burkin of Pella, and Peggy and Joe Christlieb of Corpus Christi, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
