John C. Nossaman was born about four miles south of Pella, Iowa, Feb. 7th, 1847, and died at this home near Harvey, July 8, 1909.

His parents were Wellington and Sarah Welch Nossaman. They came to Marion County in 1843, being among the very first settlers. They had migrated from Sangamon county, Ill., a part of Springfield occupying the original homestead.

July 10th, 1869, just forty year to the day previous to his burial, he was united in marriage to Amelia J Sharpe who still survives.

His brothers are four in number, Welch, Allen, Will, all of Pagossa Spring, Colorado and Frank of Harvey. Five sisters are living: Mrs. Mary Todd and Mrs. Sallie De Cook, both of Pella; Mrs. Lida Thomas of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Eva Shupe of Lacona, Iowa, and Mrs. Carrie Moorehouse of Ashland Oregon.

Of his own family one son, Clarence and three daughters; Mrs. Ollie Mastison, Mrs. Mary McVey, Mrs. Reta Stroud, are living near Harvey, also Mrs. Lizzie, wife of Harley, a deceased son.

The funeral services were held at the family residence Saturday, July 10th at 10 o’clock. The interment at Bellefoutaine cemetery. The attendance upon this service was very large and the floral tribute copious and beautiful. Deceased was well and favorably known, standing high in the estimation of all. The services were conducted by W. N. Hall pastor of the ME Church at Harvey. The afflicted family has the sympathy of their host of friends- Harvey Tribune
