PETER C. WELLE

Peter C. Welle, the son of Cornelius and Swantze Welle, was born in Pella, Iowa, September 26, 1874, and passed away this life on December 6, 1956, at the St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell, where he was taken Wednesday of last week. He had attained the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 10 days.

On September 26, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Van Zante of Sully. During the early marriage the couple lived at Sully where Mr. Welle worked as a carpenter. Later he became cashier of the Sully Savings Bank where he spent 22 years. Later he served in the same capacity in the New Sharon and Toledo banks.

Born to this marriage union were two sons, Clarence H. who passed away in 1954, and Raymond W. of Kellogg. Mr. Welle was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother and two sisters. Those who mourn his passing are his wife Lena, one son, one grandson Thomas Ray, one granddaughter, Margery Ann.

Mr. Welle was a former member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church, placing his membership with the First Reformed Church when coming to Pella and retiring.

Funeral services were held December 8, 1952 [sic, 1956], at 2:00 p.m. at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home, the Rev. Anthony Haverkamp officiating. Interment was made in the Oakwood Cemetery. Acting as casket bearers were: Mr. Donald Niemants, Mr. Delis Nikkel, Mr. Harris Van Zante, Mr. Russell Niemants, Mr. Bernard Van Zante, and Mr. Wilbur Van Zante. Musical selections, "Abide With Me" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" were rendered by Mr. Marion Welle with Mrs. Hospers Kuyper, accompanist.
