Minnie Van Vark was born on September 23, 1911, in the Sandridge vicinity north of Pella, Iowa. She was a daughter of John H. and Mary Louise Van Gorp Van Vark. Minnie attended the Sandridge Country Grade School. She made her home with he parents and then worked for several aunts and uncles. On January 26, 1939, she was united in marriage with Sam Dop at Pella and to this union two sons were born: Melvin Dean and Donald Lee. Minnie and Sam moved near Prairie City, Iowa, where they lived for six years and then near Monroe, Iowa, for three years. Most of their married life was spent on the farm southeast of Pella. During this time Sam farmed and did carpenter work for about nine years. In later years he returned to farming which he did until his death. Sam passed away on March 14, 1983, at his rural farm home just prior to his 80th birthday. During this time Minnie was a devoted homemaker. She continued to reside on the home place following Sam's death where she was very content. On Saturday evening, September 25, 2004, Minnie passed away at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa, where she had been a patient just four days. She observed her 93rd birthday there just two days prior to her death. Minnie is survived by her [two] sons and their wives, (four) grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. They are: [1] Mel & Mary (Kaldenberg) Dop of Pella, Iowa; (1) Michael Dop; (2) Mindy & Joshua Reynolds, 1 Amber Reynolds, age 11 years, 2 Alexis Reynolds, age 8 years, 3 Carson Reynolds, age 4 years; [2] Don & Twilla (Tukker) Dop of Pella, Iowa; (3) Susan Dop, (4) Amy & Matthew Brown, 4 Christian Brown, age 2 years. Of her original family, Minnie leaves a brother, George Van Vark; a sister, Marie (Marion) Boat both of Pella; three sisters-in-law: Gardena(Francis) Van Vark, Hattie (Louis) Van Vark and Mabel (Cecil) Van Vark all of Pella; along with several nieces and nephews. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her parents, John H. and Mary Van Vark; the following brothers: Harry, Francis, Louis, Charles & Cecil Van Vark; and her sister, Nellie (Leo)Kiser. Minnie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella. She enjoyed listening to the radio and watching television.
