Carrie Braaksma, 92, of Heritage Manor in Newton, died of heart failure Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. At Sully Christian Reformed Church in Sully with Pastor Larry Howerzyl officiating. Burial will be at Sully Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Today at the Sully Garden Chapel Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight.

Memorials to Heritage Manor in Sully will be accepted.

The daughter of Gysbert and Gertrude (Van Arkel) Van Wyk, she was born Jan. 8, 1905 near Sully. She attended Sully school through the sixth grade.

She married John Braaksma Oct. 8, 1924, near Sully. She was a homemaker.

She has been resident of Heritage Manor since 1973. She was a member of the Sully Christian reformed Church.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and JoAn of New Sharon, Gysbert and Dorothy of Montezuma, Carroll and Grace of Hedrick and Larry and Sherill of Newton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Gertrude Hites of Sully, Frances Enyart of Zebulon, Ga. And Leona and Harold Nielsen of Chariton; 33 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bart Van Wyk of Pella and David Van Wyk of Sully; and three sisters, Jeanette Antle of Sully, Mary Grace Terlouw of Lynnville and Fayeola Stouwie of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons; a daughter; four brothers; and four sisters. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 5 Sept 1997.
