Edith Shinn

Services for Edith Shinn, 75, Knoxville, who died Oct. 24, 1992 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital were Oct. 27 at the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

The Revs. Bob Ward and John Beebout officiated at the service. Music was provided by John Crawford and Jim Kidder. Pallbearers were Dean Shinn, Marty Shinn, Richard Shinn, Cleo Nichols, Jack Miletich and Max Lapsey Jr.

Edith was born June 24, 1917, in Lockman, the daughter of John and Mary Beinz [Benz] Lapsey. She graduated from Albia High School in 1935.

On Feb. 13, 1940 she was married to Benoni Shinn in Davenport. The couple lived in Knoxville their entire married life. Edith was a mother and a homemaker in addition to helping her husband with the trucking company in the early years. She enjoyed making ceramics for her family and friends and was also an avid bingo player.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Harry; and two sisters, Helen and Mary. Survivors include her husband, of Knoxville; three sons, Mike, Roger, and Ben Jr., all of Knoxville; two brothers, John Lapsey of Minneapolis, Minn. and Max Lapsey of Davenport; one sister, Juanita Lapsey Mills of Clearwater, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Central Iowa.
