Mrs. Elizabeth Shinn

Elizabeth Orpha Dunbar, daughter of John J. and Nancy O. Dunbar, was born on November 19, 1855. She remained at home with her parents on the farm three miles east of Attica until February 19, 1879, when she was united in marriage with Benoni H. Shinn of Marshall county, Iowa.

This young couple went immediately to a farm near Millard, Nebraska, and after two years purchased land near Odell, Nebraska, to which they moved and where they resided until 1891, when they, with their three children, moved to Corning, Iowa.

At that place the family united with the Methodist Episcopal church and were baptized and a family altar established. The family moved to Marion county in 1903, locating on a farm in Indiana township. Church membership was transferred to the Eldorado Methodist church where it remained until 1917, when Mr. and Mrs. Shinn moved to Knoxville, and their membership was then transferred to the Methodist Episcopal Church at Knoxville where it remained during their lives.

Mr. Shinn passed to his reward on April 11, 1934, and Mrs. Shinn, after a brief illness, passed to her reward on March 14, 1938 at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 23 days.

One child, Mary, having died in infancy, Mrs. Shinn was survived by three children, Katie, wife of Carr P. Sherwood of near Attica; Orrie, wife of Earl W. Bailey of near Bussey; and Noel D. Shinn of Knoxville. She also leaves five grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and one great-grandchild; one brother, James T. Dunbar of Glenwood, Iowa and two sisters-Betty Glenn of Hamilton, and Josie Chambers of Tracy-are also left to mourn her loss.

Since early childhood she has been a follower of her Saviour; she lived, toiled and sacrificed, not for herself, but for those near and dear to her.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday, March 16 at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. T.C. Kennedy, the deceased's pastor. Interment was made in the Graceland cemetery.
