October 29, 1886 - January 17, 1974

Arie N. De Reus, 87, died Jan. 17 at the Pella Community Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past four years.

He was born Oct. 29, 1886 near Pella, the son of Nelis and Francis Van Hoeve De Reus.

He attended the Bell Rural Grade School in the Bethel neighborhood near Pella and married Jennie De Heer on June 18, 1919.

A lifelong resident of the Pella area, he was a carpenter
by trade.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Bob (Bernice Fay) Smith, Inverness, Fla. ; two granddaughters, Joan Kay Bandstra, Overland Park, Kans., and Janice Kathy McDonald, Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Michelle Renee and Paul Andrew Bandstra; and two sisters, Mrs. J.A. (Barbara) Van Dyke, Citrus
Heights, Calif., and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Stek, Pella.

He is preceded in death by his wife, who died Nov. 26, 1969; his parents; three half-sisters, Mrs. Henry (Maggie) Bensink, Mrs. Gradus (Julia) Bensink and, Mrs. Bert (Nellie) Olivier; three sisters, Mrs. Engle (Marie) Van Steenis, Mrs. Herman (Fannie) Rietveld and Mrs. John (Winifred) Van Dyk; and one brother, Peter De Reus.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 22 at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Chapel in Pella with Rev. Richard A. De Jong officiating.

Casket bearers were Merle Van Steenis, John Van Vliet, Jr., Leonard Simons, Melvin De Heer, Vernon Van Gorp and George Wassenaar.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery and arrangements were made by the Van Dyk~Duven Funeral Home.
