After heavy fevers that lasted approximately a week, our esteemed fellow citizen J. Minardi lost his son, Jacob, on Sunday morning through death. It was a hard blow to the grieving parents to watch their beloved child, knowing there was little hope, and to see him go so early and unexpectedly. The burial was Monday afternoon at the new cemetery site; the funeral was held at the home led by Rev. W. Moerdijk, in the presence of a large crowd who expressed their sympathy to the grieving parents. Pella's Weekblad, Oct 1, 1886, p. 5, col 1. [Translated by J.Smith.]
