Elgin Echo, Elgin, Iowa, Thursday, 30 July 1903.

William Laird, of Knoxville, Iowa, shot and killed his son Charles, aged 16 years, because the latter refused to get up from bed when called the morning of July 22. The father then turned the weapon on himself with fatal effect.
