Services for Mary Battistello, 80, of Pella, who died June 24, 1994 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held June 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Oakland Cemetery, Centerville.

The Rev. Philip Cardenzana officiated at the services. Music was provided by Lori Dykstra, accompanist, and Andrew and John Van Berkum, vocalists. Pallbearers were family members.

Mrs. Battistello was born July 26, 1913 at Centerville, the daughter of Antonio and Catherina Speziapietra Buttel. Her childhood was spent in Centerville, Italy, and Cicero, Ill.

On Nov. 9, 1935, she married John J. Battistello and they moved to a farm south of Pella. Following his death in 1955, she was employed for several years by Rolscreen Company.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pella. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one in infancy and Mrs. Howard (Candida) Anderson and Mrs. Clyde (Marguerite) Craver, and one brother, Peter. She is survived by one son, John (Jack) and his wife Mary of Pella; one daughter, Marilyn (Chi Chi) Hamre of Pella; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and two brothers-in-law, Howard Anderson of Pella and Clyde Craver of Centerville.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
