Clara J. De Jong

Services for Clara Jennie De Jong, 88, of Pella, who died Jan. 20, 1995 at Pella Community Hospital, were held January 23 at Trinity Reformed Church. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

The Rev. Henry B. Poppen officiated at the services. Music was provided by Joyce Vos, organist, and Karen Bokhoven, soloist.

Pallbearers were John De Hamer Gregory and Douglas De Jong, Gary Moffett, Clifford Mulder and Tom Thompson.

Miss De Jong was born May 19, 1906 near Pella, the daughter of Peter G. and Antonetta Dykstra De Jong. She attended Wheat Grow and Black Oak No. 6 Country Grade Schools from which she graduated.

She lived with her parents north of Leighton and did housework for people. In 1953 they moved into Pella. She then was employed by the Pella Overall Factory and retired from there after 42 years of employment.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church where she was a member of the Hope Circle and belonged to the sewing bee of the church where she helped make quilts for missions. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Merle Van Steenis; another brother-in-law, Russel Van Arkel; and one nephew, Ronald De Hamer in infancy.

She is survived by six sisters Nina, Charlotte, and Ada De Jong, and Mabelle Van Arkel, all of Pella, Mrs. Peter (Grace) De Hamer of Oskaloosa, and Mrs. Leonard (Esther) Vande Lune of Otley; one brother, Gilbert and his wife Dorothy of Leighton; 15 nieces and nephews; 20 great-nieces and nephews; and 17 great-great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established to the Bible League.
