Remembering Robert De Jager

To the editor:

Mr. Robert De Jager died this past Saturday, November 25. He served the Chronicle and the community well with his articles about the Netherlands and his escapades in the old country. He will be missed by regular readers of this newspaper. He will also be missed by family and friends, his neighbors, those who appreciated his visits through church work, and those who enjoyed singing the Dutch psalms with him.

Mr. De Jager was principal at Peoria Christian Grade School from 1963 to 1981, where he also taught the upper grades. No doubt about it, he was strict! But we were proud of our small country school and the many lessons he taught us (although he never did convince some of us to pronounce the name of our little town with four syllables!).

As one of his students, I would like to express my gratitude for the wonderful, rich life he shared with those of us privileged to know him.
