Beulah Richards Byers Walker was born Sept. 15, 1904, in Marion County near Purdy and Columbia. She died Sept. 24, 2007, at Westridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville. She had lived there for the past seven years and was 103 years old when she died.

Beulah was the second child of Elmer S. and Fannie A. Lenig Richards. Other children in the family were Gertrude Richards, Helen Pierschbacher, Nellie Calcote, Clinton and Cecil Richards, Dorothy ShounKwiler, Frances Ohrenreider, Mildred Mason, John Richards, Jeanetta McCarty and Arthur Richards. Her parents and all her brothers and sisters preceded her in death, except Mildred, of Knoxville, and Arthur, of Chariton. The family grew up in Belinda Neighborhood in Lucas County.

On April 13, 1927, Beulah married Clinton L. Byers in a double ceremony with sister Helen and John Pierschbacher at Belinda Christian Church. To this union, four children were born; Jerry R., Vira M., Lester J. and Bonnie F. Clinton passed away in May 1938. All four children celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Her family grew to over 100 blood relatives. Beulah married Ronald E. Byers in July 1947 and he passed away in October 1954. In April 1956, she married Wayne E. Walker and lived together for 23 years.

She was baptized in 1927 at Belinda and later moved her membership to Chariton Christian Church. She kept busy with domestic jobs. She loved to garden and delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years. Tatting filled her spare time, in fact, she made seven flags, many book marks, pillow case edgings, doilies and other decorations and gave to all she met.

She will be missed by her family, Jerry (Louise) Byers, Vira Whitlock, Lester (Elaine) Byers, Bonnie (Ralph) Lang, 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great grandchildren, her church family, friends and neighbors. The family thanks you for all the love and kindness you have shown her.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 27, at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Internment was in Columbia Cemetery, with lunch served by Dallas Christian Church ladies at the Columbia Community Building. Pastor David Abbott had the service and Pastor Dave and Kristin Tyree had the music.
