Rankin, Maude (Carter) 1906-2007

Maude was born on Oct. 29, 1906, in Marion County, the daughter of Edward and Belle Everhart Carter. She graduated from Attica High School.

She married Lloyd Jackson Rankin on Dec. 10, 1926, in Oskaloosa. They lived their entire married lives in Marion County. Maude was retired from the housekeeping department at the VA Medical Center in Knoxville.

After the death of her husband on March 3, 1949, she continued to live in her own home. She moved to Griffin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 1997.

Maude enjoyed collecting many different things, including stamps, post card and business cards, dolls, and salt and pepper shakers. She was accomplished at embroidery, and especially enjoyed cooking for family and traveling to Alaska in the summer.

Maude passed away on Nov. 3, 2007 in Knoxville Hospital at the age of 101.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Katheryne Sims; and two sons, Kenneth and Ralph.

She is survived by two sons, William (Chick) Rankin and his wife, Linda, of Knoxville and Dale Rankin of Fairbanks, Alaska; one sister, Helen Harvey of Knoxville; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
