Thelma A. (Bert) Mason, 85, of Knoxville, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Knoxville Hospital. A private service was held at the McCleery-Evans Funeral Home.

Thelma was born April 9, 1922, to Ben and Ethell (Snell) Leggett in Hiteman. She moved to Moline, Ill., in 1936, and worked at the arsenal in Rock Island, Ill.

She moved to Knoxville and married Orville Mason in 1947. They owned and operated Mason's Tap in Knoxville for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and two brothers: Claude Leggett, Bill Leggett, Hope Clark, Mick Simpson, Hazel Robinson, Laura Fletcher and Mary Adams.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was quite a marvelous quilter, which she shared with all her family, and a wonderful embroiderer. Bert's quilts were graced with hand embroidering and hand quilting. She enjoyed going to the casino with her friends. Putting puzzles together on her kitchen table was a mainstay at her house.
