Florence Elizabeth Edwards was born on Sept. 29, 1923, in Ft. Dodge. She was the daughter of Dora Elizabeth Adams and Vinson Ralph Edwards.

Florence grew up in the Knoxville area and attended school there.

On March 16, 1990, she was united in marriage to Fred Leo Lauffer. Florence and Fred had 16 good years together, wintering in Yuma, Ariz., every year. They enjoyed camping in their travel trailer. They frequently attended the country music shows at Lake Rathbun.

Florence was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Creston.

Florence Elizabeth Lauffer passed away suddenly Nov. 15, 2007, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 84.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Vinson Edwards and Dora Dunbar; one daughter, Linda Gilman; one sister, Alberta Robuck; two brothers, Ralph Edwards and Donald Edwards and one son-in-law, Donald Carter.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband of 17 years, Fred Lauffer of Knoxville; two daughters, Lyla Carter of Knoxville and Helen (Bill) Garbis of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; two sons, Robert Voss of Chariton and Tom (Cammy) Voss of Folsom, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean Kane and Roberta McDonald of Knoxville; three brothers, Robert Edwards of Knoxville, Merrill Edwards of Des Moines and Ernie Wilfong of Omaha, Neb.; three step children, Carol (Gerald) Wallace and Alice (Jim) Schaffer of Creston; one son, Terry (Tammy) Lauffer of Pleasant Hill; 7 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Rev. Jim Mead officiating. Interment was at Murray Cemetery in Murray, Iowa, with Rev. Duane Hendricks officiating.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Lauffer may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville handled the arrangements.
