Roberta May Hodgson was born in a farm house north of Knoxville on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918, the fourth of five children of Thomas Burton "Burt" and Cora Jane (Teter) Karr. Roberta grew up in Union township except for five years in Jasper County.

Roberta attended three years at Blaine Country School, seven years at Knoxville Schools and two years at Newton High School, graduating in 1936. After school, Roberta worked as a clerk in a variety store for two years.

On Sept. 3, 1938, Roberta was united in marriage to Charles Roscoe Hodgson of Pleasantville at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived and farmed in the Pinchey area near Pleasantville until 1952 when they moved to a farm north of Knoxville. Charles retired from farming in 1969 and they moved to Knoxville.

Roberta and Charles were dedicated members of the Knoxville Seventh Day Adventist Church until their health failed. Charles died in 1989. Roberta moved to an apartment until her health failed and she moved to Griffin Nursing Center.

Roberta passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at Griffin's Nursing Center at the age of 89.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charles; one sister, Cecil Price; three brothers, Harold, Lloyd and Norman Karr.

Those left to mourn her passing are two sisters-in-law, Cleo Karr of Avon Park, Fla., and Helen Karr of Knoxville; five nieces and four nephews and their families.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at Ruckman Cemetery in rural Marion County, with Chaplain Bill Lane officiating. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Hodgson may be made to Ruckman Cemetery Association or Knoxville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Williams Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
