Duff, Charlotte Elizabeth (Shore) 1920-2007

Charlotte Elizabeth Duff was born on Dec. 15, 1920, in Lucas County to Lester and May Clauson Shore.

She graduated as Valedictorian from Indianola High School in 1937.

Charlotte continued her education at Simpson College, graduating in 1941 with honors. She taught business education at Ventura, Iowa Falls, Algona and East High in Des Moines.

On Dec. 27, 1953, Charlotte married LeRoy Duff at the Methodist Church in West Des Moines. Shortly thereafter, she quit teaching full time and worked as a substitute so she could stay home and raise her children. The couple lived in Des Moines for one year and Knoxville for 10 years before settling in Pleasantville in August of 1962. After their children were older, she went to work for Jester Real Estate & Insurance in Des Moines, retiring in the early 1980s.

Charlotte was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church being involved in Sunday and Bible School and the U.M.W. She was involved in all of her children's activities and worked with the Cub Scouts for several years. Charlotte loved to cook, was a voracious reader and also enjoyed sports.

Charlotte passed away on Sept. 18, 2007, at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt and uncle who raised her, Avoca and Cleo Barnes.

Survivors include her husband, LeRoy, her children, Georgia and Jay Gardner of Pleasantville, L. David Duff of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
