Cowman, Carl Eugene 1928-2007

Carl Eugene Cowman was born on March 4, 1928, near Swan to Wilby and Nettie Sanders Cowman. He attended the O.K. Country School in Marion County.

He married Donna Thomas on June 1, 1957, in Des Moines. They lived in Arizona, Illinois and California before moving back to Iowa in 1975. Carl owned Cowman's Auto Body and ran several service stations in Des Moines. He owned a fencing company in the Knoxville area and for many years was a steeplejack, which is a painter of tall structures, such as water towers.

Carl loved going to the horse races and working on lawn mowers. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl passed away on Sept. 13, 2007, at his home in Knoxville at the age of 79.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene DeMoss, Vivian Robuck, and Mayme Davisson and four brothers, Ernest, Shelley, Floyd and Jim.

Carl is survived by his wife, Donna of Knoxville; sons, Ronald of Columbus, Ga. and Chad of Bussey; daughters, Carla Cameron of Tampa, Fla., Sue Byles (Tommy) of Many, La., Tina Kavanaugh of Columbus, Ga. and Nancy McMickle (Terry) of Altoona; a brother, Leo (Bonnie) of Knoxville; sisters, Molly Kain of Pleasantville, Beulah Laughlin (Lucky), Wanda (Swayne) Balducki (Joe) and Shirley Trabert (Brenton) all of Knoxville and Donna Visser (Don) of Pella; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 17 at Evans-McCleery Funeral Home with Pastor Charles McMillian officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
