Robert Dale Pitt was born on June 28, 1918, in Knoxville, the son of Robert Ulyssis Pitt and Elizabeth (Clark) Pitt.
Bob was raised in the Knoxville area and as a young man he moved to Tulsa to attend Bible school. It was in Tulsa that Bob met the love of his life, Pauline Knebel. On Oct. 14, 1939, the couple was wed in Tulsa. Bob entered the United States Army during WWII and the couple lived on various military bases. Following his honorable discharge, Bob and Pauline moved to Knoxville and Bob began his career at the VA Medical Center. He worked there in various capacities, ultimately, as an alcoholic counselor. He retired in 1976. During their retirement years, Bob and Pauline lived in Knoxville, as well as Arkansas for a few years, before moving to Mill Pond Retirement Community, in Ankeny, five years ago.
Bob was a devoted member of the First Assembly of God Church in Knoxville. He was very active in the church and had taught Sunday School, served on the Board and was a song leader for many years. Bob's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband and father, and was very proud of his wife, children and grandchildren.
Bob passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 89.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera and Hilda and two brothers, Kenneth and Howard.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Pauline; sons, Donald Dean (Dawnetta) Pitt of Marshalltown, Robert Joe (Linda) Pitt of Bondurant; grandchildren, Renee (Pat) Sporleder of Altoona, Terri (Kevin) Murray of Johnston, Shawna (Michael) Johansen of Urbandale, Ryan (Courtney) Pitt of Stet, Mo., Megan (Mark) Mangum of Augusta, Ga.; 5 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Sporleder, Tayler Murray, Blake Murray, Liam Johansen and Brock Pitt; sisters, Helen Spaur and Hazel Wright both of Knoxville and a brother, Gene Pitt of Oskaloosa.

A funeral service was held at First Assembly of God Church Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 with Pastor David Vanderpool officiating.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168 and the V.F.W. John Myers Post No. 3519.
