James Allen Hill was born on April 23, 1927, in Bussey to Raymond and Garneth (Ream) Hill.

After graduating from Knoxville High School in 1945, Jim went on to Iowa City to attend school for linotype. Jim served in the Army from 1945 to 1947 where he was company clerk.

He married Anne Simmons in Ottumwa on Feb. 29, 1952. Jim and Anne lived in Ottumwa for the first four years of marriage while working at the Ottumwa Courier and the Mercer Publishing Company. The two later moved to Des Moines for a year and then moved on to Knoxville while working for the Des Moines Register. During Jim's retirement, he drove a cab for several years.

Jim and Anne have resided in Knoxville for the last 50 years.

Jim passed away on Aug. 1 2007, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; children, Sandy (Rick) Pettyjohn of Cedar Rapids, Susan (Jim) Peebler of Phoenix, Ariz., Bruce (Paulette) Hill of New Sharon, Jimmy (Kristi) Hill of Knoxville, Debbie (Donald) Pettyjohn of Marysville and Denise (Rick) Crozier of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Dorothy Thompson of Des Moines and Marjorie Anderson of Camp Hill, Pa.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 6 at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home with Chaplain Ron Feuerhak officiating.

Interment was in Breckenridge Cemetery.

Military honors were accorded by the United States Army, American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168 and the V.F.W. John Myers Post No. 3519.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.
