Keith Hayward Eck was born on April 4, 1915, in Littleton to Roy and Vera (Hayward) Eck.

As a boy Keith was raised in Littleton, Oak Park, Ill. and Jessup, where he graduated from high school.

In June of 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army. Keith served in the Rhineland and Central Europe theaters before he was honorably discharged on May 11, 1946. He worked as an independent contractor for the Des Moines Register, before retiring in 1979.

Keith, or Popcorn as he was known to his friends and family, had many interests; he was a fisherman, a traveler, a Cub fan and enjoyed carpentry work. He was active in the Lions Club, the American Legion and the V.F.W.

Keith passed away on May 14, 2007, at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 92.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wendell Hayward, Kenneth and Donald Eck; a sister, Eleanor Borrett and two wives, Beverly and Virginia.

Survivors include his sister, Roberta "Bobbie" Cochran of Mitchellville; five children, Steve (Dana) Eck of Knoxville, Jim Van Eck of Rancho Cordova, Calif., Wendell Eck of Des Moines, Sally Eck of Knoxville, and Scott Eck and partner Ed Raarup of Milford, Pa. and one step daughter, Kris Polikowski of Rochester, Minn; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held on May 31 at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home with Swann Juline officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the United States Army, the V.F.W. John Myers Post No. 3519 and the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post No. 168.

Memorials may be made to the Keith Eck Memorial Fund.
