Mary Jane Vroegh was born on May 6, 1927, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was the daughter of Alice B. McCully and Joe O. Morgan. After her mother passed away when Mary Jane was five, her Aunt and Uncle, Hallie and Joe McCulley adopted her. Mary Jane grew up in the Melcher area and attended school there. On March 9, 1946, Mary Jane Morgan McCulley married Lloyd Lester Vroegh. To this union four children were born.

Mary Jane helped Lloyd with the farming and raising a young family. When Lloyd died in 1970, Mary Jane was left to care for the family and the farm. She successfully operated the family farm, became a one parent family and started to drive the Knoxville School bus. Mary Jane retired from bus driving after 24 years.

Mary Jane was a long time member of the First Reformed Church of Knoxville which later became the Celebrate Church. She was also a member of the Marion County Historical Society. For many years she was involved with 4-H as a leader. Handiwork such as cross stitching and crocheting became favorite pastimes after the children left home. She has made quilts for most of the family members over the years.

Mary Jane Vroegh passed away on March 15, 2007, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella at the age of 79.

Preceding her in death were her parents, adopted parents, husband, son-in-law and one brother.

Survivors include four children, Linda Van Donselaar and her husband, Kenneth of Oskaloosa, Lila Albrecht of Altoona, Lester Vroegh and his wife, Denise of Knoxville and Audrey Spaur and her husband, William R. of Pella; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Pickering and Alberta Morgan of Knoxville and Phyllis (Vroegh) Witty of Arizona; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on March 19 at the Celebrate Church with Rev. Brice Hoyt and Pastor Gary Roozeboom officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Mrs. Vroegh may be made to the Knoxville Celebrate Church or Comfort House of Pella.
