Kingrey, Marie D. (Diekema) 1912-2007

Marie D. Kingrey was born on Jan. 8, 1912, in Marion County near Otley to Derk and Mina (Ausema) Diekema.

Her family moved to Michigan when she was young, but in 1929 she returned to Marion County. That same year she met and married Cecil Harrington. Cecil passed away in 1933, and one year later, she was married to Charles Kingrey. In 1957, Charles would also pass away. In 1963, Marie moved to the Humeston area where she owned and operated a boarding home. In 1969 she married John Kingrey. In 1974, Marie returned to Marion County and began working at Griffin Nursing Center. John passed away in 1979.

Marie was a former, long-time member of the Garden Club. She loved to cook and dance and enjoyed life on the farm and being a farm wife.

Marie passed away on March 14, 2007, at the Griffin Nursing Center at the age of 95.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Cecil Harrington, Charles Kingrey and John Kingrey; two infant sons, James and Jerry; daughter, Charlene Hulgan; three sons-in-law, Francis Hulgan, Ed Culbertson and Ron Weldon; three brothers, Dick, Arnold and Corneilous; a sister, Jennie Baillargeon; grandson, Darrell Kain; and two great-grandchildren, Lisa and Louis Kline.

Survivors include her children, Marcella (Cloman) Kain of Runnells; Mina (Carl) Roberts of Melcher; Leo (Leta) Kingrey of Columbia; Jack (Blanche) Kingrey of Knoxville; Clinna Rae Culbertson of Knoxville; Sharon Weldon of Knoxville and Alvin Derk Kingrey of Ankeny; 24 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 25 great great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held on March 19 at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. David Vanderpool officiating.

Interment was in the Dunreath Cemetery in Marion County.

Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church or to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Bybee & Davis Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
