Herschel Wyman Miller Jr. was born on Aug. 31, 1937, at home in Pershing. He was one of three children born to Clara Francis Smith and Herschel Wyman Miller Sr. Herschel graduated from Attica High School in 1955. Herschel married Roena Jean Ferree on June 7, 1958. To this union three children were born.

Herschel worked at Vermeer Manufacturing, Pella Corporation and Thermogas. Poor health required him to retire in 1999. In his younger years Herschel was a hunter. In his later years Herschel tinkered.

Herschel Wyman Miller Jr. passed away on Feb. 23, 2007, at his home in Pershing at the age of 69.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include Roena Miller of Pershing, his wife of nearly 49 years; two daughters and their spouses, Jodi and Gary Swayne of Pershing and Julie and Eric Ellison of Des Moines; one son and his wife, Hap and Mary Miller of Pershing; seven grandchildren and one sister, Shirley Whitten of Oskaloosa.

Mr. Miller has been cremated. There is no service planned at the present time. Contributions in memory of Mr. Miller may be made to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
