Dirks, Jacob Charles "J.D." 1993-2007

Jacob Charles "J.D." Dirks was born on Sept. 12, 1993, in Waterloo to Neal Brian Dirks and Cynthia Sue (Scott) Dirks.

He was baptized in his mother's home church, Bloomfield United Methodist. In 1994 Jacob's family moved to Knoxville. Jacob was currently enrolled in the 8th grade in the Knoxville Community Schools. He was active in wrestling, football, track and made the All Stars baseball three years in a row. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and was proud of his cap, which the entire Hawkeye Wrestling team had signed. J.D. enjoyed music, video games, spider solitaire, hunting, fishing and hanging with his friends. He was also very involved with the Celebrate Church and Living Word Fellowship Youth Groups. Jacob loved his family and friends and was a very caring young man, which is why his family chose to use the Iowa Donor Network to donate his heart valves to help others.

Jacob passed away on Feb. 22, 2007, at the Blank Children's Hospital, in Des Moines, at the age of 13.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William Dirks and his uncle, Clark Dirks.

Those left to honor his memory include his parents, Neal and Cindy; brother, Zachary; maternal grandparents, Charles and Carolyn Scott of Bloomfield; paternal grandmother, Mildred Dirks of Cedar Rapids; aunts and uncles, Craig and Kathi Scott of Bloomfield, Colleen and Kurt Birchmier of Carlisle, Christine and Michael McClure of Bloomfield and Leon and Kay Dirks of Cedar Rapids and many other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life was held at Celebrate Community Church on Feb. 27 with Youth Leader Bruce Rietveld and Drew Raleigh, officiating

Interment was in the Bloomfield I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich, officiating

Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Little League or to the family in Jacob's memory.

Bybee & Davis and Bertrand Funeral Homes in Knoxville handled the arrangements.
