Edmond Lee Gilmore, Eddie or Blackie, as he was known by his family and friends was born on Dec. 8, 1935, in Lawton, Okla. to Ernest and Lucille (Parrish) Gilmore.

Eddie's family lived in Turley, Okla. until he was 14-years-old, at which time they moved to St. Paul Park, Minn. The family later moved to Indianola, in 1951, where Eddie graduated from high school in 1954. Following high school, he worked for Green Colonial Furnace, in Des Moines and served in the National Guard.

On July 23, 1966, he married Mary Beth Robuck at the Fairview Christian Church in rural Pleasantville. The couple has always made Pleasantville their home. Eddie spent most of his life in the construction business, as a bricklayer, for Bartholomew Construction in Carlisle. While in the construction business, Eddie traveled all over the Midwest, building many telephone buildings. Most recently he worked for the Path Lab at Iowa Health in Des Moines.

Eddie had many interests; he enjoyed collecting vinyl records and magazines and attending the Old Threshers Reunion, the Iowa State Fair and airplane shows. He also liked playing cards and sports. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with anyone. Eddie was very positive and had the unique ability to always see the good in people. Eddie was a great friend, and a loving father, husband and grandfather. His greatest love was his family; he loved watching his children grow up and attending all their events and was a very active and positive influence in his grandsons' lives.

Eddie passed away on Feb. 20, 2007, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Kerry Pierce and a nephew, Tony Gilmore.
