Jacob John Goodyk, son of Johannes Jelle and Sadie Spoelstra Goodyk, was born January 15, 1929 near Sully, Iowa. He passed away Sunday morning, March 25, at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care at the age of seventy-eight years.
Jake attended Andreas School, located in Jasper County, where he completed the eighth grade.

On February 12, 1951 Jake was inducted into the United States Army. He served two years with the 21st Engineers Battalion at Camp Carson, Colorado and Fairbanks, Alaska. On February 11, 1953 he received an honorable discharge.

On April 18, 1952 he was united in marriage with Wilma Martha Pol at the Otley Reformed Church. After their marriage Jake and Wilma lived in Otley where he worked in a gas station. Five children were born into the Goodyk household: Ruth, Michael, Phillip, Pamela, and Patricia. In 1957 the family moved to a farm near Sully and lived and farmed there until 1960. They then moved to a farm near Otley and later moved to a farm near Harvey. Retiring from the farm in 1991, Jake and Wilma moved to Pella where he worked at Steenhoek Auto.

Jake and Wilma were members of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Wilma passed away September 20, 1998 at the age of sixty-seven years. Shortly after Wilma's death Jake became a resident at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care. He enjoyed going to In't Veld's for morning coffee with his friends and loved having his family and friends stop in for a visit.

Those left to cherish his memory are his five children and their spouses: Ruth and Lowell Vande Noord of Pella, Michael and Jann Goodyk of Pella, Phillip and Laurel Goodyk of Pella; Pamela and Jeff Van Sant of Pella, and Patricia and Ryan Holtrop of Otley; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother: Pete Goodyk and his wife, Gertrude of Sully; four sisters: Charlotte Beyer of Michigan, Adriana Roose of Pella, Joanne Spykerman and her husband, Joel of Michigan, and Louise Nikkel of Pella; three sisters-in-law: Freda Goodyk, Esther Goodyk, and Betty Goodyk.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; three brothers: Wiebe, Hank, and Case; one sister: Tena; three brothers-in-law: Gerrit Roose, Albert Beyer, and Wilbur Nikkel.

Jake will be missed by his family and his many friends.

Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery. Service arrangments were made by the Garden Chapel Funeral Home.
