Florence Virginia McVay was born on April 19, 1917 on a farm near Green Castle, MO. She was one of three children born to Iona Ann Morrow and Eddie Monroe Moore. Florence attended school in Liberty and Green Castle, MO.
On February 18, 1942 Florence was united in marriage to Clark Kenneth McVay. To this union one daughter was born.
Florence and Clark spent most of their married life on the “old McVay farm” east of Knoxville near Harvey. A few years of that time they lived in Knoxville. Florence enjoyed the farm, the animals and most of all the many pets. She was a great cook but later enjoyed going to McDonalds with her special friend, Don Prickett. The most important aspect of Florence’s live was being the greatest wife, mother and grandmother.
Florence was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She had been a faithful member of the Harvey Methodist in her early years. She loved the Lord and all of God’s creation. She wrote many poems expressing her feelings and beliefs.
Florence Virginia McVay passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 89 years.
Those left to mourn her passing are one daughter and her husband, Betty and Normal Person of Knoxville and one granddaughter and her husband, Karen and Brian Brustkern of Johnston.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Clark in 1981; one sister, Grethel Harden; and one brother, Gerald Moore.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 27, 2006 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Interment was in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy, Iowa.
Musical selections were “In the Land of Fadeless Day”, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere”, and “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow.” Amber Atkins was the vocalist. Christine Meyers was the organist. Casket bearers were Larry Crozier, Bob Graves, Richard Harden, Paul Harrington, Lloyd Havener and Dennis Uitermarkt.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. McVay may be given to the Harvey United Methodist Church or the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
