PELLA - Funeral services for Inez Marie Buwalda Koder, 91, of Pella, a resident of the Jasper County area for several years, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Dr. Gary D. Smith will conduct services.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day today.

She died Monday at the Pella Community Nursing Home in Pella where she had resided since 1987.

Survivors are a step-daughter, Beverly Sue Kain of Pella; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Bailey of Newton and Cathryn Koder of Prairie City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hubert Harley "Buck;" and a half-brother in infancy.

Mrs. Koder was employed at the Maytag Co. in Newton during World War II and later, after moving to Pella, at the Overall Factory and at Rolscreen for 17 years before her retirement.

The daughter of Abraham G. and Blanche Sumpter Buwalda, she was born Sept. 13, 1903 in Pella and, after the death of her mother, was raised by her father and maternal grandmother.

She was married to Hubert Harley "Buck" Koder Feb. 23, 1935 in Monroe.

They resided on a farm north of Pella until moving to Pella in 1950 ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
