Millard Filmore Godfrey, son of Edward and Susan Godfrey, was born near Bussey, August 23, 1857, and died at his home in Hamilton, Wednesday, January 5, 1944, aged 86 years, 4 months and 13 days.
The deceased grew to manhood in Marion county, and with the exception of about six months, which he lived in Texas, spent his entire life in the community of _____________the deceased was united in marriage to Margaret Jane Spaur, who preceded him in death, April 4, 1930. To this union six children, two sons and four daughters were born, Elmer, of Hamilton, Arthur, who at the present is making his home in Arizona: Mrs. Eva Frost, of Bussey, Mrs. Inez Tandy, of Oskaloosa; Mrs. Edith Liddicoat, of Chariton, and Leota with whom he made his home.
Mr. Godfrey was a great lover of nature and spent much of his time and --took pride in his flowers, and was always happier when he was able to do something to make this world a lovlier place in which to live.
Those surviving besides his immediate family are a brother, Arza of Bussey, fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
funeral services were held at the Hamilton church, conducted by Rev. Rowe and assisted by Rev. Pixler. Burial was in the Hamilton cemetery.
