Sheldon H. Vos, 77, formerly of Pella, la. passed away at his home in San Diego on Sunday, November 26, 2006 after a brief illness. He was born July 28, 1929 in Pella, IA to Will and Minnie (Vanden Berg) Vos. Shot attended elementary and high school in Pella and graduated with the Class of 1947.

He played forward position for the Little Dutch basketball team under Coach Lloyd Gnagy while in high school. He attended Central College in Pella and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Valley Forge during the Korean War.

He resided in San Diego most of his life. He owned the Travel Lodge Motel in Chula Vista, CA. and later was employed by San Diego Glass and Paint Company from which he retired in 1994. After retiring, he worked part- time at the Stoneridge Country Club in Poway, Ca. He loved each and every day at his job there and had a great rapport with the members of the club.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jean; his son Tim of San Jose, CA; his son Doug and his wife Nancy and son Zach of Laguna Hills, CA; his daughter Shelly Mathys and her husband Rick and daughters, Nicole, Catherine and Rashel of Portland, OR; his daughter Beverly Schlitt and her children Danny, Jennifer and Michael of San Diego and his sister, Eleanor Short of West Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Rollins M. Short.

The family has entrusted North County Cremation Services with arrangements. Shot's ashes will be scattered at sea, per his request.
