Funeral services for Bob Dykstra were held Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at the Milo United Methodist Church. Memorials are requested to the SE Warren Athletic Boosters or the Milo Rescue Unit.

Bob was born June 29, 1926, in Beacon, to Ben and Aretta Doty Dykstra. He attended school in Beacon in a country school moving south of Milo his freshman year and rode a horse to Milo school until he got his Model A. After graduating from Milo High School, he served under General McArthur after being drafted into the Army. He worked in communications during the Nuremberg Trials.

Bob married Juanita Freeman in Jan. 14, 1951, and they were blessed with two sons: Dan and Dwayne. They spent their married life dairy farming until retiring.

Bob was a member of the Milo American Legion and served and worked with many farm organizations. He enjoyed young people, especially his grandchildren. Bob was a 4-H leader, served on the county 4-H committee, superintendent of the Dairy Show at the county fair, and loved watching Little League. He was a sports fan, especially SEW Warhawks and the Hawkeyes. He enjoyed hunting and his home was a gathering place for opening day breakfasts, soup lunches, and a place of many wild and funny stories.

Bob passed away Nov. 18, 2006, at the Comfort Hospice House in Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Darlene Streeter; and daughter-in-law Linda Dykstra.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Juanita; his sons: Dan and Barb and Dwayne and Sandy; grandchildren: Danelle, Kyle, Dusty, and Dillon Dykstra and Becky and Andy Schurman; two great grandchildren: Kayli and Cody Schurman; a sister Bonnie Sheets of Winterset and a host of relatives and friends.
