Rachel Trynie Bogaards, the second of seven children that were born to the late Abraham and Johanna Van Heukelom Bogaards, was born on October 27, 1912, in the Sandridge vicinity north of Pella, Iowa. Rachel attended the Sandridge Country Grade School.
She and Theodore Van Dorland were united in marriage and to this union one daughter was born, Minnie Jean. Rachel lived all her lifetime near and in Pella and work never inhibited her lifestyle.
On November 7, 1946, she was united in marriage with William Uitermarkt and his two children, Dorothy and Willard , became a part of their blended family. Rachel and Bill lived and farmed East of Pella all their married life until moving into Pella. During these many years Rachel worked at Boomsma Produce in Pella and did housework for several families. And if this was not enough work, she did wallpapering and ironing. She was a beautiful 'ironing lady'.
Her husband, Bill, passed away May 19, 1989 at the age of 83 years. Following his death Rachel continued living in their home, 513 West Second Street, her favorite place, she loved her home, until becoming a resident at the Griffin Nursing Center at Knoxville, Iowa in February, 1999. In October of that year she was transferred to the Long Term Care Unit of the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Rachel passed away there on September 29, 2006, attaining the age of 93 years, 11 months and two days.
Those left to honor her memory are her daughter and two step-children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Of her original family she leaves her sisters, Alberta and her husband Carl Mitchel, Jeanette Robus, Bernice Sneller and a sister-in-law, Faye(William) Bogaards all of Pella; two sisters-in-law, Harriet (Uitermarkt) Vanden Baard of Pella and Maxine (Albert) Uitermarkt of Oskaloosa, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews whom she admired.
The nieces and nephews have many fond memories of traveling together and her willingness to always share in the activities they enjoyed doing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Uitermarkt; her parents, Abraham and Johanna Bogaards; her oldest sister, Martha and her husband, Peter Doornenbal; her only brother, William A.M. Bogaards; her sister, Mollie C. and her husband, Franklin Brom; and three brothers-in-law, Henry Naaktgeboren, Norman Robus and Jake Sneller.
Rachel was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella and was a former member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
