June De Zwarte, the daughter of Gerrit and Gertie Slykhuis De Zwarte, was born on June 22, 1925, near Flagler in Marion County, Iowa.

She attended the North Flagler Country Grade School and graduated from Pella Community High School in Pella, Iowa. As a young girl June made her home with her half-sister, Irene Geetings, her half-brother, Wayne Geetings and her brother, Bob De Zwarte. June went to the stock car races in Oskaloosa, Iowa on a blind date with Lynn Duane Moore and received an engagement ring on September 1, 1948. Subsequently they were united in marriage on December 23, 1948, at 1315 Main Street in Pella and to this union two children were born: Lynda Sue on December 3, 1949 and Michael Lee on May 15, 1953. Following their marriage June and Lynn lived most of their married life in Pella.

June was a homemaker while Lynn worked at various occupations and for 27 years was a salesman for Larson-Swanstrom, a farm equipment distributor in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In addition to her domestic duties, June was employed as a secretary at the Rolscreen Company, for the First Baptist Church and in the development office at Central College.

On April 10, 1993, at the age of 69 years, her husband, Lynn, died of injuries received in an automobile accident in Polk County, Iowa. June continued to enjoy gardening, raising flowers, sewing and most recently scrapbooking.

Early Sunday morning, October 29, 2006, she passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 81 years, four months and seven days.

Those who will cherish her memory are her two children and their spouses, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Lynda S. and Michael Hommer of West Des Moines and Michael L. and Kathy (Maher) Moore of Pella.

Of her original family June leaves her sister-in-law, Jennie (Wayne) Geetings of Pella and the following brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Bill (Frances Moore) Johnston of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Rex and Marilyn Moore of Indianola, Iowa and Max Moore of Russell, Iowa. June was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; her parents, Gerrit and Gertie De Zwarte; her sister and her husband, Irene and William Vander Beek; her brother, Wayne Geetings; and her younger brother and his wife, Bob and Neva De Zwarte.

June was a longtime, faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Pella. She was a charter member of a bridge playing club and still playing for more than 50 years. Her last game was one week before she passed away. June's favorite flower was the rose; her favorite performers were Frank Sinatra and Perry Como; and her favorite vacation spots were in Florida and at Seattle, Wash.
