Betty Lou Cross was born on May 7, 1925, in Sioux City. She was one of three children born to Anna Laura Linn and Truman Walter Moore. Betty spent part of her childhood growing up in Sioux City before moving to Knoxville where she finished the 9th grade.

On April 7, 1957, she married Leo Albert Cross. To this union two children were born.

The family settled in Knoxville during the late 50s where they worked at the old Corner Café for several years before leaving the area for a short time. When they returned to the area they opened the Red Rock Café (located behind Baker Drug) and operated it for several years.

Betty worked there as well as caring for her mother and her brother, Junior. As the children grew older and with the passing of her parents and brother, Betty started doing childcare for her grandchildren as well as others. She cared for one child in particular, Kenny Lindaman who also became part of the family as her foster child. Betty's family was the center of her life. Her entire adult life was spent caring for them as well as for others.

Betty Cross passed away on Oct. 30, 2006, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 81.

Those family members preceding her in death were her parents, Truman and Anna; her husband, Leo in 2000; one brother, Junior Moore and her foster son, Kenny.
Those family members left to mourn her passing are one daughter, Jeri Dailey of Knoxville; one son and his wife, Eddie and Debra Cross of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister and her husband, Eva and Walter Nord of Surprise, Ariz. as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 3 at Williams Funeral Home with Elder Sam Nichols officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Cross may be made to her family.
