Margaret Chance was born on April 4, 1916, in the town of Birch Creek to Joseph and Edith Cox Castings. Margaret's childhood was a rich mosaic of memories from one town to another, she experienced all kinds of environments from Birch Creek, to Valley Junction, to Dallas and finally settled in Williamson where she graduated from Williamson High School.

In 1939, she married Paul Chance in Davenport. They were married for 58 years and lived in Melcher-Dallas for 36 years. Margaret enjoyed fishing with Paul, saying that a family that fishes together stays together. They also traveled and after retirement they spent their winters in Mission, Texas. She learned to paint and do other crafts during the winters and enjoyed making new friends from all over the United States.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; sisters, Bertha Wilson and Tillie Hastings and a brother, Clifford Castings. She is survived by her daughters, Paulette and Terry Roche of Des Moines and Bertha and Ray Klein of Columbia; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services for Margaret were held on Oct. 24, 2006, at the Dallas Christian Church in Melcher-Dallas. Burial was in the Dallas Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Dallas Christian Church.

Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas handled the arrangements.
