De Jong, Alice 1906-1984

DE JONG, LANGSTRAAT, DE HEUS

Alice, daughter of Leendert and Wilhelmina De Heus Langstraat, was born on August 2, 1906 in Mahaska County near Peoria, Iowa. She attended grade school in Peoria. On December 16, 1926 she was united in marriage with Peter K. De Jong at her parents' home near Pella, Iowa and to this union six children were born. Following their marriage, they farmed on her parents' farm in Mahaska County near Peoria until moving to Marion County where they lived in the Knoxville, Iowa vicinity. In 1937 they moved into Knoxville where they lived for 47 years. They lived at 813 N. Roche where Alice passed away Wednesday morning, February 15, 1984 at the age of 77 years, six months and 13 days. Surviving are her husband, Peter K. De Jong of Knoxville; their six children: David P. De Jong of Thomson, Georgia; Donald D. De Jong of Knoxville; Stephen J. De Jong of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Esther Alice, Mrs. Eno Gadbois of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Marvin Peter De Jong of Grand Junction, Colorado; Naomi Wilene, Mrs. Dennis Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 26 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Of her original family, Alice leaves one half-sister: Anna, Mrs. John F. Nunnikhoven of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and the following sisters and brothers: Irene, Mrs. Peter Pol of Pella, Iowa; Cornie Langstraat of Eddyville, Iowa; Minnie Wilma, Mrs. Peter Van Ham of Pella; John L. and Paul Langstraat, both of Knoxville; Jacob Langstraat of Pella and Pauline, Mrs. John A. De Jong of Greenville, South Carolina; along with a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two grandsons: Daniel Lee De Jong and Mark Simmering; her parents; three half-brothers: Peter, Henry John and Herman Lucas Langstraat; two sisters and a brother: Sarah, Mrs. Grover Cotton; Dick Langstraat and Hattie, Mrs. Ralph J. Kuiper. Alice accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was a young girl. At the time of her death, she and her husband were members of the Gospel Tabernacle in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Alice was a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother.
